Easy access to biodiversity information through an improved search facility!
A single search now allows you to access information from the South Africa Biodiversity Information Facility (SABIF) and SANBI’s Integrated Biodiversity Information System (SIBIS) web sites. Through this major improvement we offer:
Ø More biodiversity data than ever before with both species and specimen level data being served
Ø More varied data types are served which include: observation records, occurrence records and multimedia records such as images
Ø Refined mapping functionality is available
Ø Interesting statistics on the data served can be accessed
Ø Ability to view threatened species information
Ø Specimen downloads are permissible
This integrated data portal allows for the seamless transfer of data between the SABIF and SIBIS systems. It ultimately improves the informatics platform as it draws on a larger development team that can support the architecture and ultimately leads to a more efficient data management process for South African biodiversity data.
